Self Portrait   "Not Fair"

I am a printmaker, painter, and digital artist interested in political/socio-economic and psychological topics. I have always felt strongly about ethical treatment of animals and humans. I am a lover of the environment. Subject matter ranges from Canada Geese, Grackles to Tokyo Rose, all who have suffered injustices or abuse. I am interested in spiritual battles of addiction and advertising campaigns that manipulate audiences through glamorization of substance abuse.

I received my BFA Studio Arts/BA Art History from the University of Hawaii and my MFA in Printmaking at SAIC in Chicago. I am now in Austin, Texas for family and am teaching at the Art Institute of Austin. I live in Circle C Ranch - a pivotal environmental spot for stewardship of the environment and development over the aquifer.

My images are sculptural - I edit and combine objects to present an iconographic image for a particular idea. I am influenced by Oceanic, African and Mexican art for the monolithic ancient power it holds. I love Asian art for the simplicity, strength and imagination it embodies. I admire Max Beckman and Otto Dix for creating powerful imagery that revealed ills of society.

My latest work is digital -created in Illustrator that I have evolved from drawings or paintings. Sometimes I work in reverse being inspired by computer graphic solutions for variations in paintings or drawings.

The digital works are tied to traditional printmaking techniques in terms of color variations, artist proofs and numbering. I utilizes conceptual graphic communication systems for various statements. I produce mock advertising campaigns to unsell a product or idea.

Printing on various materials such as metals, plastics and papers serve to enhance or add dimension to a concept.
